Despite this, Doug manages to strategically defeat or escape them, much to his chagrin. To prevent him from escaping, he resorted to unleashing more powerful servants to hunt him down, including his loyal pet. Malak would confront Doug physically within his nightmares, transforming into a phantom in an attempt to kill him after obtaining each realm's soul shards. As the power of the ring pieces were responsible for sustaining each nightmare, each time Doug would escape, the entire realm would collapse before him, further enraging Malak.
